King’s Grau

With its 18 km of coastline, Le Grau-du-Roi is a seaside resort with multiple activities, close to La Grande-Motte and, like it, built between a marine pond and the Mediterranean. A fishing village, Le Grau du Roi began to attract people in the 1930s for its climate. The station is still developing in the 70s around Port Camargue, marine city designed by the architect Jean Balladur which allows to widen the range of nautical activities. Port Camargue is today the leading marina in Europe. You can also rent boats there, learn to sail, or practice kite-surfing, jet-skiing and scuba diving.

Emblematic of Grau du Roi, the 1828 lighthouse is classified as a Historic Monument. The fishing port is the second in the Mediterranean with 25 trawlers. Service providers offer you to embark on a discovery of sea fishing or to introduce you to big game fishing. With its 18 km of coastline, Le Grau-du-Roi is also an ideal destination for enjoying the pleasures of the beach: on either side of Port Camargue, seven lifeguard stations mark out the supervised beaches of Boucanet, Right Bank, Left Bank, North beach or Espiguette, all labeled Blue Flag.

Le Grau du Roi is also a land of traditions, whose arenas offer a rich cultural programme. Between the variety concerts, find the traditional Camargue races and many other bullfighting games: abrivado, bandido, ferrade, quadrille, or toro piscine. Among the major local events not to be missed when you stay on a campsite in the Gard are the French kite-boarding championships, the Abrivado des Plages festival with the release of bulls led by the herdsmen, or the Graulinades, a festival dedicated to Mediterranean gastronomy where you can taste a giant rouille.
